After much reading and research, I built my first aquaponics setup in 2020. I used three 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tanks to contain the water. The tanks were plumbed in parallel to maintain the same water level across all three tanks, even though the water pump drew water from the center tank only. I used concrete mixing trays for 4 ebb and flow beds, with lava rock, and a two-inch layer of expanded shale on top as the growing media.

The nutrients from the fish really allow for dense planting.
