About ten years ago, I found this video from LDS Prepper, and decided to try the idea. I lived in a rental, and a setup I could dismantle and take with me had its appeal.

Here are some pictures from the bucket system. As you can see, I ran two separate hoses to different areas on my driveway. The hose fed a water bucket outfitted with a Kerik value, which looks somewhat like the old toilet flush valves. This valve maintained a constant water level in a feeder bucket. The feeder bucket is covered by screen to prevent mosquitoes, and allows you to add water manually, or will allow rainwater.
I arranged one set of buckets under a tree for some shade, and those buckets contained my peppers. The other set of buckets were tomatoes and herbs.
